Thursday//

Hello beautiful people of the earth!

Since the weather's (surprisingly) good today, my iphone served me extremely well. Decided to head to Kim Choo for lunch with my mom and here's a little review on it:

Kim Choo. A famous place for peranakans to have their dinners. Speak of nonya dumplings, ondeh ondeh and other Peranakan delights and they'll direct you to a shop opposite I12 Katong, along a row of shophouses.

A very traditional joint, Kim Choo serves one of the better dishes around. The first time I went, we ordered Beef Rendang, Nonya Chap Chye, XO Dumpling and Buah Keluak. A gentle reminder that the small portions are juuuust nice for 2, so don't go over ordering all your dishes! Prices range from $8-12 for small dishes.

However this time, we ordered Ngoh Hiang, Beef Stew and Nonya Chap Chye (Again cos it's really good!) The beef stew was much of a let down, the broth was a tad bit too salty albeit the very soft and tender beef. The ngoh hiang was so-so. Not fantastic but not bad either. The chap chye, however, remained at its top notch standard.

My mom didn't fancy the XO dumpling and neither did I. It was a little too dry in my opinion and it lacked flavour. I only insisted on trying the nonya dumpling cos of its rave reviews. Perhaps I ordered the wrong one...

All in all, I'd still come back for the beef rendang and chap chye. It's a little inconvenient if you don't live in the East but hey, where good food is I'm willing to travel.

Donned in pink today! In all honesty I don't fancy pink much but the colour suits me quite a bit. -_- Anywho I managed to paint my nails in time for Xmas, and if you guys are ever looking for a good top coat I'd recommend Seche Vite's Top Fast Dry Coat. You guys can grab down at the Scape* Underground mall which goes for $10 a bottle. Trust me when I say it's the best kind of top coat around worth its money. Here's a pic of how it looks like:

#ootd for today:
Off-Shoulder top in hot pink, Taiwan
Floral HW Shorts, Zara
Armcandy, Cotton On + Pandora

From left to right:
London Tweed Moto Jacket, Cable Knit Pullover in Persimmon and Grey from thetinselrack.com
Make-up from Sephora (Details below)
Mottled Multi Print Cami from Topshop

And we went crazy shopping today. If you guys aren't into beauty products don't continue reading but if you are, read away! (Or read even if you don't like beauty products :p)

After hearing many rave reviews about Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF15 Balm, I decided to head down to Sephora to check them out myself. I think I've found my holy grail. THE most moisturizing lip balm I've ever tried, this product stayed on with me for hours on end when I tried it on before purchasing it a few days before. It promises to hydrate and protect your lips. And trust me it does. It's a little more on the 'oily' side but I can assure you it's the kind you'd want on your lips for that everlasting shine (And not the "eh how come you've excess oil on your lips? From the fried chicken ah?" kind of shine)

However beauty comes with a price. Retailing at SGD29 from Sephora, I'm pretty sure you can get these stuff cheaper online.

Because my mom swears by this product, she decided to get me one too. I'm not sure about you guys but I have the hardest time trying to keep my eyeliner put during the day (Perhaps due to oily lids or the fact that I always only line my inner section of my eyes). I've tried practically everything. From maybelline, to ZA, to japanese brands, to Chanel.. Nothing works :( However when I tried my mom's one a few weeks back it managed to stay put till the end of the day! It'll cost you about SGD35 but I would say it's worth the splurge. Does anyone else have any recommendations? I'm welcome to them! :D

Oh, did I mention I really really really love tinted lip balms? The lady at the counter said this was Dior's best seller (in terms of lips) and I decided to give it a go. A tinted lip balm which gives you the prettiest shade of rose pink, it promises to hydrate your lips and give it a soft tint. It's not bad a product, but I would purchase this only if my lips weren't cracked and dry. Certainly not for hydration but for the fact that it looks so damn good on anyone's lips. Retails at SGD44 from Sephora.

Alright I'm off for a good session at the gym. Till then, stay gorgeous!

Merely - Did someone say I scream?

After the longest hiatus, I'm back! And this time, with icecream.

Now who wouldn't love a good cone of fatty, calorie loaded goodness in such a humid, erratic weather? Thboy and I love going to one place for icecream, & that's Merely.

Located along Bencoolen Street just opposite Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, this small little shop gained publicity when they opened earlier this year. Having passed it numerous times, I decided to give it a go one day after school. Lo and behold their icecream was out of this WORLD. Unique flavours like red velvet and banana & walnut caught my eye. Have I mentioned they have alcoholic flavours too?

Thboy got himself gula pandan and me oreo milk. I'm a kid that way.

The very friendly owner of the store, he's most generous with his serving!

And since I had my camera I decided to make full use of it today (Also because it was pouring outside and we couldn't go anywhere)

Greedypig4lyfe with my new Pandora bracelet. Honestly I don't see what the hype is about Pandora but since my lovely friends got it for me for my birthday I decided to continue getting charms. :')

Kids play monopoly. Cool kids play monopoly on iphone. Which drains your batt like crazy, btw.

Cute sketches on napkins done by students displayed on the tables!

So if you're ever around the Bugis area or feeling a little greedy after a good dimsum meal at Victor's Kitchen, make the effort to head to this quiet little joint at Sunshine Plaza which I feel has one of the better ice-creams in Singapore.

England.

I've been quite MIA recently... Here're a few pictures to make up for the time lost here:

Best burger I'll ever have. From a makeshift van outside the Student Union in England, done on the spot and served hot.

Horses @ Chatsworth trotting back & forth. So cutezzzz.

Interior of the house. People here really take pride in their homes, especially the rich.

Told myself I'd try PJ Taste over here. The healthiest meal I had the whole time, the best thing about this was the egg in that little plastic cup on the left.

When it comes to cupcakes, England has the best ones. Singapore's cupcakes are nothing compared to the ones here. Rich, flavourful, moist... And huge.

The SGD7 hotdog that tasted nothing like it looked. Still feeling extremely cheated :<

And of course.. KRISPY KREME!!!

Tried a cupcake from this place called Francie. Holy shitballz this was good stuff.

Duck egg vs chicken egg

Church turned into a drama studio. Buildings here have so much history.

The infamous postbox.

For now, ciaozzzzz.

Kith Cafe - Another Day, Another Place.

#ootd #TGIF

For whoever's reading out there, you guys must be wondering why I've been going to cafes alone lately. Simple. I enjoy being a lone wolf, and at this point of time in my life I actually prefer being in the comfort of my own thoughts rather than making small talk with people. I love my friends to death, but I've been feeling the need to retreat in my own shell for a bit.

So as Maroon 5 continues playing in the background of my iTunes, let me start how I feel about where I am right now- Kith Cafe at Park Mall.

A pretty small cafe packed with a decent number of chairs, it's a pretty good place for people-watching or sipping a cup of tea and indulging in a good book or getting some work done (For those people who simply cannot get anything done at home except sleeping)

It was around 3pm when I arrived, so the breakfast menu was closed sadly. Decided to go for a grilled chicken sandwich and a iced honey milk latte. Mmmhmm.

The staff were pretty friendly too. A young, energetic bunch, they're always on their feet with a smile on their face. Good service = moneys' worth. And within 10 minutes my order arrived! Oh did I mention, they have wifi here? Fantastic for people like me who need to use their laptops to get some work done.

Grilled Chicken Sandwich ($12)
Grilled chicken, portobello mushroom, parmesan cheese atop toasted bread with a side of chips

I'm no fan of chips, but I actually finished the 7-8 pieces that was on my plate. I'm not really sure if they were baked by Kith Cafe themselves but it was worth me gobbling down the whole lot. The mushrooms were sautéed to perfection, and the grated parmesan cheese added a nice touch to the simple albeit yummy meal. I have, however, had better sandwiches. So you might want to try something else like the pasta (Which my next door neighbors are having) when you come here. P/s: They're actually squealing in delight whilst looking at the pasta so...

3.5/5

Iced Honey Milk Latte ($6.50)

Although the honey wasn't stirred properly and kind of coagulated to the bottom, it's an extremely refreshing perk-me-up on a hot day like today. Definitely recommend this for the dehydrated and those who like a tinge of sweet in their drinks.

4.5/5

Like I said, cafes have been a new favorite hangout of mine. Even though half the time my mind drifts into how wonderful the ambience of a place is, I know I can't daydream forever and that projects await me.

The B Word.

The B Word.

A word we sometimes experience from time to time. A word many have heard of but might not know about. Today, I'm here to talk about binging.

Being a foodie (As I've said many times), I love food. My vices especially include chocolate. Ask any of my friends and they'd tell you I'm one of the biggest chocolate lovers around. When I was younger, I used to gobble down about 4-5 pieces of Fred chocolate bars and then proceed with a box of chocolate pokey sticks and then more chocolate. It's such a wonder why I haven't landed up a role in Hansel and Gretel.

What is Binge Eating?

People with binge eating disorder often eat an unusually large amount of food and feel out of control during the binges. Unlike bulimia or anorexia, binge eaters do not throw up their food, exercise a lot, or eat only small amounts of only certain foods. Because of this, binge eaters are often overweight or obese.

People with binge eating disorder also may:

  • Eat more quickly than usual during binge episodes
  • Eat until they are uncomfortably full
  • Eat when they are not hungry
  • Eat alone because of embarrassment
  • Feel disgusted, depressed, or guilty after overeating

Some of us seek comfort in food when we're upset, angered or emotionally unstable. Some don't. I don't usually seek comfort in foods unless I'm happy, which is the reverse. The happier I am, the more I eat.

But here's a little note for you:
Spot the difference?

I'm here today to tell all of you that food does not have to serve as a source of comfort. There are so many other ways of relieving stress like going out for a run, or catching up with friends. Hey, there's even Tumblr to cheer you up when you're on the verge of explosion!

Everyone has a Choice. More often than not we over-indulge because we always tell ourselves "I'll work out afterwards so it's no worries" or "I'll eat lesser tomorrow to make up for today" But how much truth is actually in there?

Why do we Binge Eat?

From past experiences, I realize I only binge eat when I either:

1. Haven't eaten properly the whole day
or
2. Force myself not to think about food cravings like chocolate, fried food, etc

I'd over-indulge in foods, even when I was full simply because I was greedy. It was as if I was about to die the day after and had to eat all the food I wanted to satisfy my unsatisfiable stomach.

Help! How do I stop Binge Eating?

Simple. I've come to the conclusion that no foods should be prohibited. I believe we're all allowed to eat anything we want, but in moderation

If you keep eating yogurt every single day, chances are by the end of the week you'd end up with cravings like waffles, pancakes or cereal. Likewise with chocolate. If we keep indulging in fatty foods like fried food, pastries and breads daily, chances are one day you'd step on the weighing scale only to realize you've put on 3-4kg.

------

I hope this article has given you a clearer insight on what binge eating is, what causes it and how to stop binge eating. Don't forget that not eating doesn't help. It simply slows your metabolic rate down and when you start eating normally again, you'd gain double the amount back!
